Dental Studio Group offers a special Oral Cancer Screening package in recognition of Oral Cancer Awareness Month this April.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 2021: In support of the Oral Cancer Awareness Month, Dental Studio, an award-winning group of multispeciality dental clinics in the UAE, invites patients to take advantage of a special package that focuses on the fight against oral cancer.
The package includes a comprehensive check-up, an enhanced pain-free oral cancer screening using VELscope and an oral hygiene appointment. VELscope is a device that uses a blue, fluorescent light that enhances the dentist’s ability to detect abnormalities that are often invisible to the naked eye.
The offer runs throughout the month of April and is largely beneficial to those at high risk of oral cancer – heavy smokers, heavy alcohol drinkers, those who have had HPV infections, and those who have not been to the dentist for a very long time.
As the eight most common cancer to affect people worldwide, oral cancer can be divided into two main categories – cancer occurring in the oral cavity and cancer occurring in the oropharynx, with both collectively killing nearly one person every hour of every day of the year. Dr. Jaco Smith, CEO and Group Clinical Director of the Dental Studio Group highlights some of the main symptoms or indications to look out for when checking for signs of oral cancer. These include symptoms such as a sore or irritation in the mouth that doesn’t go away, red or white patches on the gums, tongue, tonsils or lining of the mouth, swelling of the jaw, trouble chewing, swallowing or moving the tongue or jaw, and more. He also recommends patients to visit the dentist if these symptoms persist, especially if they occur for two weeks or longer.
