After in-office whitening you want to make sure you care for your teeth properly to ensure the best results possible.
For 48 hours after whitening, you should avoid anything dark. After whitening the teeth are dehydrated and will be absorbing whatever you put on them. It is best to stay away from coffee, tea, dark juices, dark or colorful sauces, turmeric, and berries. Ideally try to stick with a white or light diet for the two days after whitening. Foods like oatmeal, eggs, rice, chicken, fish, bananas, salads (without balsamic vinegar), pastas with white sauces are best for the two days after treatment.
After whitening there may be some sensitivity. The day of treatment try to stick to room temperature foods and drinks. Stay away from ice water, ice cream or anything very hot as it may trigger unnecessary sensitivity. In addition to this, using a toothpaste designed specifically for sensitivity after for 2-5 days this is helpful to minimize any post procedure sensitivity that may linger.
We often also recommend home whitening trays to be used in conjunction with the in-office whitening for best long-lasting results. If this is recommended also try to minimize dark foods and drinks as much as possible while using the home trays.
