Adult braces

In honor of the Orthodontic Health Month, which is celebrated every October, we are going to tackle a very common question we hear from our patients – "Am I too old for braces?"

The common notion that orthodontics are just for kids is a myth.

In fact, any patient whether young or old, can benefit from orthodontic treatment. Here at the Dental Studio, 6 out of 10 orthodontic patients are older than 18. Every day, more and more adult patients are coming away with beautiful results.

Are braces a good option for adult orthodontic treatment?

Since braces are fixed to your teeth, they are a very effective orthodontic option. Your braces work around the clock to move your teeth into the correct position. Modern braces such as the Damon System and Insignia are actually more discreet and are able to deliver high-quality results up to six months faster than traditional options.

Clear aligners for adults

I’m looking for a more inconspicuous treatment to straighten my teeth.

Clear aligners are easily a favorite among older patients. You can remove them when you’re eating, brushing your teeth or attending social gatherings, allowing you to improve your smile without compromising your lifestyle. You will have to wear your clear aligners for 22 hours a day to get your desired result.

Orthodontic treatments don’t take forever to complete.

Orthodontists are trained to handle all cases no matter how simple or complex. Your orthodontist will assess your case and propose a treatment that will safely and accurately move your teeth into a more ideal position in the shortest amount of time.

Patient compliance is very important.

Just like any other treatment, your cooperation is very important to make sure you reach the results that you want. There are a few factors that can delay your treatment such poor oral hygiene or not wearing your elastics or aligners as prescribed by your orthodontist.

Orthodontic treatments are not purely cosmetic.

Crooked, misaligned teeth do raise cosmetic concerns, and a lot of our patients undergo orthodontic treatment because they want to smile with confidence. However, there’s more to a good bite and straight teeth that meet the eye. Crowded teeth are not easy to clean and may increase the risk of decay and gum disease. In addition, a bad bite can cause problems in swallowing and can put excessive stress on the jaws and chewing muscles. This can cause headaches and facial pain.

So, there you go. If you’ve been putting off an ortho consultation because you feel it’s too late, worry not! Healthy, beautiful teeth are a great investment no matter your age. Speak to an orthodontist that you trust and get started with your journey!
